Perry: House Plan a Strong Starting Point

Thursday, February 03, 2005  •  Press Release

AUSTIN – The following is a statement by Gov. Rick Perry regarding the education reform proposal put forward today by Speaker Tom Craddick and Rep. Kent Grusendorf, chairman of the House Public Education Committee:

"I applaud Speaker Craddick, Chairman Grusendorf, and the leadership of the House for not only focusing on improving funding for our schools, but improving performance, too.

"Their plan is a strong starting point because it devotes new resources to schools, improves teacher compensation, and focuses the debate on achievement. I look forward to working with legislators of both parties to provide better funding and needed reforms for our children's education."
