Gov. Perry Signs Dotson Extradition Papers

Wednesday, September 03, 2003  •  Press Release

AUSTIN - Gov. Rick Perry today signed a governor's warrant for the extradition of Carlton Dotson. Dotson, who is being held in Maryland, was indicted last week by a McLennan County grand jury on a murder charge for the June shooting death of Baylor University basketball player Patrick Dennehy.

The Governor's Office received a formal application for requisition from the McLennan County District Attorney on Tuesday. Following a legal review by attorneys within the Governor's General Counsel Division, the extradition was presented to Perry for his signature. The review assures the extradition request complies with laws and conditions set out by the U.S. Constitution, the Federal Extradition Act and the Uniform Criminal Extradition Act.

Perry's formal extradition request has been sent to the office of Maryland Gov. Robert L. Erlich.
