Statement of Gov. Rick Perry Regarding House Action

Tuesday, May 04, 2004  •  Press Release

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding the House school funding plan:

“I applaud Speaker Craddick and legislative leaders for working with me and Texas taxpayers to find common ground.

“Together we are finding agreement on the need to provide more money for education and real and lasting property tax relief without risking Texans’ jobs. The House plan as laid out earlier today actually moves closer to my plan and, even more importantly, moves the process and debate further. There will be a lot of votes cast between now and the end of this process. What matters most is the final product.

“Tom Craddick is a good and trusted friend of nearly two decades. He has a distinguished record of service, and a historic record of accomplishment in the 16 months he has served as speaker. Together we worked to balance the budget without raising taxes, pass sweeping lawsuit reforms, enact innovative changes to how we finance transportation projects, and protect doctors and homeowners from skyrocketing insurance rates, to name a few.”
