Statement of Gov. Rick Perry on Revenue Estimate

Monday, January 10, 2005  •  Press Release

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement regarding the Comptroller's revenue estimate and the state's anticipated surplus for the next biennium.

"The Comptroller's revenue estimate validates the decisions made by state leaders and legislators two years ago. Because we set limited but important priorities, reduced state spending and kept taxes low despite tough economic times, today the state has additional revenue to invest in critical priorities like education, healthcare and protective services without asking taxpayers for more of their hard-earned money.

"This announcement also shows that our investments in job creation are wise because jobs provide the revenues we need for education and other priorities. Few, if any, states in the nation can boast such a dramatic turnaround in just two years because of fiscal restraint and wise investments."
