Gov. Perry Congratulates Harley Davidson
Good morning. With the creation of 165 new jobs over the next three years, I am proud to say Harley-Davidson is adding a little more horsepower to the Texas Economy. As governor, but especially as a Harley rider, I am excited that Harley-Davidson recognizes that Texas is an ideal location to expand operations, create new jobs, and make a new capital investment of $3 million. And I hope North Texans looking for work will stop by and apply because Harley is hiring now.
This job announcement is yet another sign that the Texas economy is heating up. Later today, I will travel to Odessa to announce another $3 million investment that will mean 500 new jobs in the customer service industry. And tomorrow I will be in San Antonio to share the good news of a $100 million high-tech investment that will create 600 jobs and add $33 million in payroll for South Texas.
I want to thank our corporate friends with Harley-Davidson Financial Services, a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson, for expanding its operations here in Plano. I want to especially say a word of thanks to Harley-Davidson Financial Services president and CEO Donna Zarcone, who was kind enough to take my call many months ago so I could put in a good word for Texas, and the Texas economy.
Harley Davidson knows what I know: Texas is a great place to grow a business because our taxes are low, our regulations reasonable and our workforce skilled. My vision for a stronger and more prosperous Texas is built on the foundation of job creation and educational improvement. If we continue to attract new jobs to Texas, we will generate the stable source of revenue that job creation, and not over-taxation, can provide for investments in education. And if we continue to invest in Texas classrooms, more companies like Harley-Davidson will be drawn to Texas because of a highly skilled workforce.
This announcement today is good news because it means more jobs, more paychecks and a stronger economy for the Metroplex, and all of Texas. In fact, I can only think of one thing better than Harley-Davidson’s announced job expansion, and that is strapping on a helmet and taking one of these hogs for a ride. Fortunately for me, we get to do both. Let’s cut the ribbon and go for a ride!
