Tonight, we, the people of this nation, gather to mourn September 11, 2001, a day of darkness in America.
It was a mere twelve hours ago when the forces of evil perpetrated unthinkable tragedy upon our fellow American citizens.
Tonight, we gather to share in the sorrow of our fellow man, and to mourn the senseless taking of innocent life. We gather to pray to an all-knowing Creator as our questions outnumber our answers.
Tonight, America is in mourning, but America will not be broken. Tonight America is wounded, but America will not be defeated.
As our President said earlier today, “freedom has been attacked, and freedom will be defended.”
And I will take that one step further: freedom will prevail.
My dear friends, my fellow Texans: in times of great despair we must never lose hope.
In times of suffering we must come together in the presence of God. We must pray for the innocent victims and for the patience and wisdom to carry on.
Let us pray for our nation, our communities, and our citizens to bind together - because together, one nation under God, we are strong enough to overcome any adversity.
Let us be resolved to meet this tremendous challenge with the faith and courage which have sustained us for more than 200 years. The faith and courage which will see us through this tragedy and let us emerge a stronger and better nation.
May God bless you, and may God bless America.
