Thank you Larry.

Of all of Texas’ most abundant resources, none is more precious than our children.

I am proud to join the Department of Public Safety, the United Way, and Ford Motor Company in promoting the safety of our children as they travel our roads and highways.

Booster seats have been proven to save lives for children who have outgrown car seats, but who are too small to be safely buckled up in an automobile.

With only 17 percent of Texas children between the ages of four and eight strapped into a booster seat, five out of every six of our children are at greater risk if they are involved in an accident.

I believe that this problem can largely be addressed simply through greater awareness about the importance of booster seats.

That’s why we are here today to encourage Texans to secure their children between the ages of four and eight in a booster seat: it could save their lives.

I want to commend the United Way, Ford Motor Company and Toys ‘R Us for participating in the free give away of 25,000 booster seats to Texas families of limited financial means in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Houston.

This safety campaign is about a safer Texas for our children.  If our children are educated, healthy, and safe, the future is limitless.

Thank you very much.
