Capital Area Council Sporting Clay Event
Thank you Mark.
It is good to see so many friends of Scouting, including numerous public officials.
I’m glad my fellow Aggie Dale Laine is here. I hope Mark Farris is more accurate than I heard you were during the clay shoot.
In just a few years of scouting, young boys and young men learn values that will last them a lifetime.
They learn practical things about the outdoors, and a love of Mother Nature. They also learn about working together, and about striving to achieve a goal.
I remember when I received that Eagle Award, I was as proud as I ever have been in my life.
I knew if I could accomplish that, there was nothing I couldn’t accomplish if I set my sights on achieving a goal.
Discipline, duty, honor, and a love of country are all a part of the Scouting tradition, a tradition I am glad so many of you here are supporting.
Your funds will enable the Scouting tradition to grow stronger in Central Texas. As we look to the future, we know Texas will succeed or fail based on the quality of leaders we develop in our classrooms, on our Little League and Soccer Fields, and in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
Those little ones learning their ABC’s and fractions are the hope of tomorrow. That’s why we created a Math Initiative to improve math in public schools. That’s why we raised standards so that students are prepared for college when they graduate from high school.
That’s why we expanded the TEXAS Grant program, so more deserving Texans can go to college.
Scouting is a great tradition in America, and a vital part of preparing the leaders of the future. I want to thank you for supporting this great tradition. Future generations will be indebted to you. Thank you, and God bless.
